I think that I’ve definitely suffered organizing burnout here at Santa Cruz. There is so much going on, so much change in the air, that I feel a bit sad to be leaving. I’ll be moving to LA, finding a job – hopefully a design job – and definitely being out of the action of student organizing in Santa Cruz.
In general, student leaders are awesome, but looking back, there is so much we just did not know. First, the phrase is “student leader” not the other way around. Even though my major had nothing to do with organizing – at first glance – there are still real-world implications of a crappy GPA.
Also, I learned that it’s going to be all right. We won’t win every fight, but, true to our titles we are students of hard work, hard parties, struggles, tears and love.
I’ve still got some personal mountains to climb before graduation – including writing a few final research papers (heh) and paying a last university bill – but I’ll be in the background reading and listening and thinking.
Peace,
-Ann!
