Dear Friends [Please forward to other students, faculty, and allies you know],
The State Labor Board has ordered AFSCME back to the bargaining table because University of California administration claims they have more to offer. Therefore the STRIKE IS POSTPONED!
UC administration has shown that they are extremely worried about the 2-day strike called by patient care and service workers. While a 97% statewide worker vote to strike as well as continued worker/student/faculty/staff/community unity has moved UC – this fight is far from over. We see this attempt to suppress workers’ right to strike as a calculated move by the UC to divide workers and students. After 10 months of organizing, we believe the UC is scared of our strength in numbers, and wants to push the strike into the summer, as well as divide students from workers, and workers from other workers.
There will be a statewide day of action on June 4/5/6 including at the Inauguration on Friday, June 6th. We will be sending the message to UC executives that coming back to the bargaining table with promises of good faith negotiations is not enough. They will not have peace until they address the serious problems with recruitment and retention of patient care staff and poverty wages of service workers.
Thank you for your continued solidarity!
Action details after the jump.
