Here’s what’s been going on, organizing wise, student/woman of color wise, election wise, and personally.

Making College Affordable Again
Tuition Relief Now is a campaign working on freezing fees (code name for tuition) at California public universities and junior colleges. Fees at the UC(University of California)s have gone up 90% since (when?), with a 7% increase in the 2007-08 year alone. And the recent California budget proposes another 10% cut to state-funded higher education. Ridiculous. TRN is campaigning to freeze tuition increases for the next five years, capping fees after that, and taxing the rich to make up the difference. 60% of the money raised will go to state universities, and 40% to community colleges and K-12 state schools.

Sister Solidarity
The month of March is Women’s Heritage Month and my amazing sister, Solymar Sola-Negron is doing amazing stuff through the UC Santa Cruz Women’s Center. One thing I’m excited about is the photo exhibit with fellow photographer, Cynthia Dorantes. I can’t even begin to explain how beautiful this sister is, how inspiring her photography and how generous her heart. She’s been letting me borrow her camera since mine disappeared at the end of last year. We’ve got photos of women of color close to our hearts that will be up all for the duration of Sister Solidarity.

Voting! I can vote!
I finally became an American citizen last year after living in this country for 20 years. How cool is that?! Shout out to my dad and sister who also shared that wonderful day with me. Anyway, with the airwaves dominated by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton (at least in the California Bay Area where we assume everyone is a Democrat since our state vote will be Democrat no matter what), I thought it best to shout out to the bloggers and posts out there who have been saying somethings that actually make sense about this particular election.
